Why it works
The opening pull out exposes the missing area before any explanation, while the search, drag and license workflow makes the payoff verifiable in shots 11–16 and 33–34. The 0.25–0.50 s texture cuts in shots 19–25 reset attention after two long idea shots; the 3-frame flash at frame 998 returns the film to the real canvas.
