The Armchair Travels With the Dream
A surreal 36-second Squarespace brand film carries one laptop user and armchair from a room to an alpine retreat, with brief website proof and a scenic payoff.
Field notes / why it works
The same armchair and laptop remain legible while the setting jumps from room (0:01.4) to street (0:08.7), hillside (0:21.2) and mountain retreat (0:26.8), turning a simple product task into a visual journey. Brief UI and keyboard inserts establish what the person is doing, while 19 measured cuts in 36 seconds give way to a six-second scenic hold that lets the outcome register.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A calm, eccentric protagonist works on a laptop from an oversized armchair. Without leaving the chair, they pass from a cozy room through a busy street to an open meadow and, finally, a mountain retreat. Brief website glimpses make the digital action legible; the final landscape and one short line make the dream feel real.
Why it works
- The opening shows a candle, smoke and brand mark for 1.44 s before the person appears, creating an unusually quiet entry for a 36 s ad.
- The same chair anchors every location change: street at 0:08.7, grass at 0:16.2, hillside at 0:21.2. Each move advances the visual joke without an explanation.
- Product proof is intermittent (0:03.4, 0:13.6, 0:19.4, 0:24.9), then the wide mountain payoff holds for roughly the last nine seconds.
