The Absurd Skate Brand Checklist
A cinematic 36-second launch ad turns a deadpan checklist into escalating branded props before revealing an online store.
Field notes / why it works
The premise is on screen by 1.5 seconds, then a 4.84-second hold gives way to a fast, funny prop checklist. The same mark appears on increasingly unlikely surfaces at 17–23 seconds; the 22.6–22.9-second replay peak leads straight into the legible online-store proof. Short narration leaves roughly nine seconds of visual resolution.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A straight-faced narrator offers a very short checklist for creating an implausibly specific brand. Physical gags make the list increasingly ridiculous, then one recognizable logo repeats across objects and leads to an online storefront or other product proof.
Why it works
- The promise is readable by 1.5 s and spoken by 3.4 s, while the first uninterrupted bowl shot builds anticipation before the 4.84 s cut.
- From 11.0–25.2 s, the visual examples accelerate into an almost item-by-item montage: 21 shots overall, with 15 cuts between 10–25 s.
- The 22.6–22.9 s replay peak lands on an unexpected logo placement, just before the website proof at 23.6 s; the motif pays off visually before the product appears.

| Reference | |
|---|---|
| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube · 16:9 · 36.0 s · measured file 640×360 at 23.98 fps |
| Pace | 21 shots, 20 detected cuts, 33.3–36.6 cuts/min allowing two uncertain changes; mean shot 1.72 s, median 0.88 s; final shot 8.97 s |
| Script | 57 transcribed words; 126 wpm over full film, 182 wpm while speaking; six short sentences; the automatic transcript mishears the title phrase, so use visible title as ground truth |
| Voice | One low-register, animated, dryly amused narrator; no visible presenter address |
| On screen | Predominantly cinematic live action and product/prop close-ups; two laptop/store views around 9.2 and 23.6 s; minimal typography |
| Captions | No subtitles; opening centered white uppercase logo/title only |
| Sound | Continuous tonal bed during speech, about 13 dB below voice; orchestral/classical character is suggested by viewer comments (inferred); accents coincide with roughly 45% of cuts |
| Structure | Title/promise → humorous prerequisites → repeated style/merch proof → store/newsletter proof → short spoken resolution → long visual tail |
