Special relativity through one moving spaceship
A six-minute measured excerpt of a flat 2D science explainer that reuses one spaceship diagram to turn observer-dependent timing into a visible clock comparison.
Field notes / why it works
The 6:00 excerpt keeps one ship-and-planet diagram while changing the viewer's frame of reference at 3:34, so each new claim builds on familiar objects. Its strongest replay window, 4:32.6–4:40.4, is where clocks appear across the ship and make the abstract timing difference visible. Thirty-seven internal graphic changes sustain movement despite zero definite cuts.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A calm narrator introduces a simple moving system, then changes the observer's point of view until an intuitive rule fails. A single flat 2D diagram carries the lesson: the same few objects move, gain light rays, then gain clocks, so each new conclusion feels like a consequence of what the viewer already saw. The topic is named in speech at 0:05.6; the real conceptual puzzle arrives around 1:32 when light behaves differently from a thrown ball.
Why it works
- The spaceship and planet introduced at 0:14–0:20 remain the visual anchors through the 3:34–4:20 observer switch and 4:32–4:40 clock payoff; viewers do not have to learn a new scene for every claim.
- One controlled contrast creates the open loop: ordinary ball speed at 1:02–1:27 versus unchanged light speed at 1:32–2:04, followed by a two-light experiment at 2:48–4:20.
- The highest measured replay window, 4:32.6–4:40.4, coincides with clocks appearing across the ship. The abstract claim becomes a spatial, inspectable picture.

| Pace | Automated detector: 1 continuous shot, 0 measured cuts, 0–0.3 possible cuts/min, nominal 360 s shot. 37 internal visual steps, about 6.2 picture changes/min; ongoing object motion matters more than cuts. |
| Script | 900 measured words · 152 wpm across runtime; 212 wpm while speaking · 44 sentences, about 20.5 words each · 25 number mentions · no measured questions or second-person “you.” |
| Voice | Solo, medium-register, clear educational narrator; engaged and rising in pitch without a presenter on screen. |
| On screen | Nearly all flat 2D explanatory animation: spaceship, planet, silhouette, light waves and clocks. Opening logo is the exception. |
| Captions | No word-following subtitles in supplied sheets. A small persistent uppercase chapter label, “SPECIAL RELATIVITY,” sits in a pale top band after the intro. |
| Sound | Tonal, music-like background detected (inferred), roughly 7.7 dB below measured voice level; −14.5 LUFS integrated, −0.9 dBFS true peak. |
| Structure | Logo → establish moving system → familiar rule → light exception → two-observer experiment → clock payoff → next consequence. No CTA or ending in the measured excerpt. |
