Jellyfish Power and Banana Rain
A colorful science explainer makes absurd viewer questions concrete through animated mechanisms, huge quantities and escalating scale comparisons.
Field notes / why it works
The 0:24 question gets a specific 280-terawatt-hour baseline, then a glowing map compares it with 20 countries and Australia during the most replayed 0:33.8–0:40.6 stretch. The proposed solution keeps escalating from a tiny per-animal yield at 3:22 to billions of animals and a mountain-scale tank by 4:23. Forty-four shots and 63 within-shot steps make the six measured minutes visually active without rushing every scene.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A calm but playful narrator treats ridiculous viewer questions as engineering problems. Cute vector characters and huge, legible diagrams turn each assumption, unit conversion and failure into a scene; the first apparent answer fails, then the calculation escalates to an absurd physical scale. In this measured excerpt, a jellyfish power proposal occupies 0:24–5:04 and a banana rain scenario begins at 5:10.
Why it works
- A comic self-correction opens at 0:00, then the narrator promises scientific answers by 0:20; the question lands at 0:24.
- The most replayed 0:33.8–0:40.6 window pairs the city's energy demand with a graphic comparison to 20 countries and Australia, making an abstract figure visible.
- Each solution creates a larger obstacle: tiny glowing jellies at 0:57, a working mechanism at 2:02, one watt per large jelly at 3:22, then 29 billion animals and a mountain-sized tank at 3:38–4:23.
