Nuclear energy from promise to reactor
A vivid flat-vector explainer turns a polarizing energy debate into history, mechanism, and a present-day choice.
Field notes / why it works
The first frame splits nuclear power into dark and bright imagined outcomes while narration asks the central question by 0:02.6. Fifty-one internal graphic changes carry a low-cut 4:43 explanation from history to reactor mechanics, with the three practical selection criteria at 2:02–2:05 matching the strongest replay peak. A system diagram at 2:11 and particle sequence at 2:15–2:48 make the causal process visible before the film returns to present-day tradeoffs.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
An opening question acknowledges that the subject is confusing while a split picture embodies two opposing views. The film then travels from a vivid historical promise through a practical reversal, pauses at a simple mechanical explanation, and ends with a present day choice and a next episode invitation.
Why it works
- The viewer knows the question by 0:02.6, while the first frame's dark versus bright split makes the dispute legible without a label.
- A long setup earns a concrete answer: at 2:02–2:06 three large criteria appear, the video's strongest replay peak, followed by a reactor diagram at 2:11.
- It changes visual scale as the idea changes: world map at 1:38–1:45, machinery at 1:55–2:11, atom animation at 2:15–2:48, then a comparison chart at 3:49–4:15.

| Pace | Detector: 6 long shots, 5 certain cuts plus 2 uncertain, or 1.1–1.5 cuts/min. More useful animation measure: 51 internal step changes, 11.8 picture changes/min total; detector mean shot 47.3 s. |
| Script | 744 spoken words · 158 wpm across runtime, 189 wpm while speaking · 50 sentences averaging 14.9 words · 7 questions · 24 number mentions. |
| Voice | One low register adult narrator; precise, curious, assured, lightly playful. |
| On screen | Essentially 100% custom flat vector animation: split worlds, timeline, characters, map, machine cutaways, atom diagrams and charts. No live presenter. |
| Captions | No running subtitles. Large uppercase chapter and keyword labels appear only where the graphic needs them. |
| Sound | Continuous tonal bed measured around −24.2 dBFS between words; voice forward; 134 BPM is a low confidence tempo estimate. −13.1 LUFS integrated, −2.3 dBFS true peak. |
| Structure | Eight teaching beats; process answer around 2:06–3:08, present day synthesis at 3:48, next installment CTA at 4:37. |
