Persona 4 Revival mystery-to-gameplay trailer
A Switch 2 game announcement that moves from an unanswered mystery through character scenes into fast combat proof and a dated end card.
Field notes / why it works
A quiet platform-logo opening and mysterious question at 0:01.5 create curiosity before the world is shown. The edit shifts from 1.4–2.4 second character scenes to a rapid combat run at 0:50–1:09, and the most-replayed segment at 0:57.7–0:58.5 contains a bright mascot close-up and attack payoff. The final card holds the title and date for 5.4 seconds after the action.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A platform logo gives way to a dark question and glimpses of a world before the title is named. Short character and interface scenes establish the premise; a much faster gameplay run answers what the experience feels like; a calm final card gives the name and date.
Why it works
- The mystery is voiced at 0:01.5 while the first world images are withheld until after the two publisher cards, creating an open loop before the product is identified.
- Pace climbs from four cuts in the first ten seconds to about 19 cuts during 0:50–1:10, with action, interface bursts, and character close-ups alternating.
- The highest replay at 0:57.7–0:58.5 lands on a bright mascot close-up and attack payoff. A second peak at 1:04.0–1:04.7 lands on the action climax; the release card waits until 1:12.4.
Plate 02 / Format card
| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube · 16:9 · 77.8 s · source measured at 640×360, 30 fps |
| Pace | 46 detected shots; 34.7–42.4 cuts/min including uncertain changes; mean 1.69 s, median 1.42 s; longest 6.27 s |
| Script | 168 detected spoken words; 147 wpm overall, about 195 wpm during speech; short dialogue lines rather than a continuous narrator. Automated transcript has several likely name errors. |
| Voice | Ensemble of youthful, animated character voices; medium measured median pitch for the mixed track, wide movement. No single narrator. |
| On screen | Two logo cards, then a mix of cinematic world shots, character/dialogue scenes, anime-style close-ups, and gameplay. The final ~22 s are action led. |
| Captions | No added creator subtitles. Small in-world dialogue boxes and game UI; one full-screen premise sentence around 0:12; final release card. |
| Sound | Music-like bed under dialogue, about 125 BPM in final section (rough estimate); in-world voices and action audio. −14.1 LUFS integrated; measured true peak +1.1 dBFS. |
| Structure | Brand → mystery → cast/world → emotional stakes → accelerating action → title/date card; hard stop. |
