An Identity Revealed from a Dot

A wordless OpenAI identity refresh that grows from one dot into typography, colour, photography and a final mark.

Field notes / why it works

A tiny point holds through the first 3 seconds and becomes a disc and rings near 0:06.5, the video's strongest replay peak. Six rapid glyph shots around 0:28–0:30 contrast with a roughly 21-second centered wordmark hold from 0:45.1. The shift to people and nature at 1:19.8 overlaps another replay peak at 1:20.3–1:21.4.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A nearly empty white canvas invites attention to one dot, then reveals a visual identity through geometry, type tests, colour, and finally human/nature imagery. The implied promise is a refreshed way to see the organization; it is visual rather than stated in a first-second headline.

Why it works

  • The tiny central dot holds for the first 3 seconds without a cut, making a high-contrast curiosity gap; the 0:06.6–0:07.7 dot-to-disc/ring change is the strongest replay peak.
  • The pace changes are pronounced: no cut until 0:23.7, six subsecond glyph shots around 0:28–0:30, then a roughly 21-second wordmark hold from 0:45.1.
  • The film moves from abstract design to lived context at 1:19.8; this second reorientation overlaps the replay peak at 1:20.3–1:21.4.
