Seven Empires on a Ranked Globe
A 30-second historical ranking uses one dark animated globe, changing territory overlays and a held winner reveal.
Field notes / why it works
The question is readable at 0:00, but rank 1 is withheld until about 0:22.4. Eight internal visual changes keep one stable globe fresh without cuts, while the winner's ≈29.3M km² card has a long final hold. A small source line and approximate figures signal that the borders are historical estimates.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A silent-viewing-friendly, 30-second portrait infographic asks which historical empire had the largest mapped extent, then advances through seven highlighted territories on a slowly turning globe. Each entry pairs geography with a rank, name, date and rolling area figure; the winner gets a longer final hold.
Why it works
- The question is legible at 0:00, while the answer stays open until roughly 0:22.5.
- A stable layout lets the changing territory and number carry attention: eight measured internal picture changes, with no cuts.
- The final card at 0:22.8 shows the winner and ≈29.3M km² long enough to read through 0:26.3 and beyond.
Plate 02 / Format card
| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube Shorts · 9:16 · 360×640 source · 30.02 s · 30 fps |
| Pace | One continuous motion-graphic composition; 0 cuts/min; eight major on-screen changes, 16 picture changes/min; nominal shot length 30.02 s |
| Script | No reliable speech; on-screen question, short labels, names, dates and figures do the explaining |
| Voice | None in the observed format; an isolated transcript “You” at 0:05.1 is not enough to establish spoken narration |
| On screen | 100% designed data visualization: globe/map, editorial headline, rank labels, rolling statistic, tiny credits |
| Captions | No dialogue captions; fixed headline and data cards |
| Sound | Audio present at −12.5 LUFS integrated; rough 129 BPM pulse, low confidence; exact instrumentation/effects unverified |
| Structure | Question → globe reveal → ascending ranked examples → winner card; no visible CTA |
