Field notes / why it works

The first eight seconds identify viewers with prior knowledge and promise a faster method while small drawn characters animate the invitation. Two properties appear at 1:55–2:42, then a number-line derivation earns the compact rule at 4:21. A six-second musical mnemonic at 4:47–4:53 marks the most-replayed span, and a worked example follows immediately.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A calm but animated narrator promises a faster way to do a familiar technical task by looking at its underlying structure. A tiny character exchange at the start establishes the assumed knowledge; a long, spatial visual derivation lets viewers discover three facts, then a short musical interruption and worked examples turn the insight into a usable procedure.

Why it works

  • The opening selects its audience immediately: speech begins at 0:00, the drawn characters are visible in frame one, and the faster-method promise arrives by about 0:08.
  • The argument delays the compact rule until 4:21, after the viewer has seen the mean, product, and distance relationships at 2:06, 2:22, and 3:14–3:53. The 3:10–3:18 stretch is a secondary replay peak.
  • A musical mnemonic interrupts the dry explanation at 4:47–4:53; that is the strongest replay peak. The worked example starts immediately after at 4:53.

Script1,119 transcribed words · 187 wpm over 6:00 · 235 wpm during detected speech · 52 sentences, 21.5 words average · about 3.5 “you” per 100 words.
VoiceLow-register, precise, friendly teacher archetype; lively rises and falls, never shouted.
On screenPredominantly blackboard-style mathematical motion graphics; small flat characters in intro and outro; a brief inset of a human performer at 4:43–4:53. No conventional presenter-led A-roll.
CaptionsNo burned speech subtitles. Equations, headings, labels, and number-line annotations function as selective on-screen text.
SoundDry narration with nearly silent pauses; short music/vocal mnemonic around 4:47–4:53. Integrated −17.2 LUFS; measured true peak +0.1 dBFS.
StructureAudience filter → prerequisite recap → cumbersome baseline → three-fact discovery → formula → mnemonic → examples. First full rule at 4:21; examples begin 4:53.
