Black Holes: An Animated Life Cycle
A six-minute vector science explainer that carries one visual object from stellar birth through human-scale consequences to cosmic death.
Field notes / why it works
The stark disc and origin/consequence questions establish the mystery by 0:09, while the brightest replay peak at 0:21.4–0:24.9 shows the particle mechanism viewers need to understand. Around 12 detected picture changes per minute keep a visually continuous explanation active; the story renews attention at 1:30 with anatomy, 2:21 with a viewer-centered scenario, and 4:26 with the object's end. A concrete human consequence around 3:20–3:34 precedes the cosmic payoff at 5:06–5:24, with the CTA delayed until 5:29.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A calm, low-register narrator takes a strange scientific object from origin through mechanism, human consequence, scale, and eventual fate. Nearly every spoken idea becomes a bright, simplified diagram, with recurring shapes carrying the viewer through the entire 5:56 explanation.
Why it works
- The opening starts with a stark black disc on a star field at 0:00, then asks where it comes from and what falling in would mean by 0:09. The visual mystery is immediate even though the first detected picture change is at 0:05.
- The strongest replay peak, 0:21.4–0:24.9, shows hydrogen-like atoms transforming amid bright energy. The animation makes the causal mechanism easier to inspect than a verbal definition alone.
- The narrative renews stakes: birth at 0:15, anatomy at 1:30, a viewer-centered thought experiment at 2:21, two possible outcomes at 2:48 and 3:26, scale at 3:53, and death at 4:26.

| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube · 1280×720, 16:9 · 5:55.9 at 25 fps |
| Pace | Detector: 6 long continuity shots, 5 certain cuts (0.8/min), 33 uncertain boundaries (up to 6.4/min), and 66 internal graphic steps; about 12 detected picture changes/min. A continuity shot can contain many illustrated scenes. |
| Script | 1,079 spoken words · 184 wpm across runtime, 222 wpm during active speech · 67 sentences, 16.1 words on average · 4 questions · 24 number mentions |
| Voice | Warm, low-register, articulate adult narrator; lively pitch movement, steady explanatory authority |
| On screen | Approximately all custom 2D vector motion graphics (inferred from supplied frames); no talking head or footage in the sampled sheets |
| Captions | No running subtitles visible. Small diagram labels and occasional numbered callouts instead. |
| Sound | Continuous tonal music bed about 11.8 dB below voice; roughly 134 BPM estimate, low confidence; −13.8 LUFS integrated, −2.0 dBFS true peak |
| Structure | Seven narrative beats; physical consequence peaks at 3:20–3:34, cosmic ending at 5:06–5:24, sequel and support CTA from 5:29 |
