Indie Game: The Movie documentary trailer
A 2:48 documentary trailer that pairs candid maker interviews with gameplay, then accelerates from personal stakes into a rapid montage.
Field notes / why it works
The nearly silent 8.55-second opening shot makes the first maker declaration at 0:10 feel like a reveal. Interview fragments are paired with visible process and gameplay, then a 0:54–1:24 speech-free sequence lets the work speak for itself. Stakes rise at 1:24, and the edit peaks near 2:05–2:27 at roughly one cut per second; the 2:06.8–2:08.4 reaction/gameplay moment is the most replayed.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A documentary trailer introduces makers through their own words, shows the thing they have made, then reveals the cost of finishing and releasing it. The promise begins with the first interview declaration at 0:10; a wordless sequence at 0:54–1:24 turns that personal claim into visible proof, and the second half tests it with career and identity stakes.
Why it works
- The first 8.6 seconds hold one blurred, slowly clarifying circular object with no speech; the first voice at 0:10 feels earned rather than crowded out.
- Interview confession and corresponding creation alternate from 0:10–0:54: hands at a keyboard (0:11), a maker behind a monitor (0:18), pixel art (0:27), and drawing (0:31) make abstract motivation visible.
- Stakes intensify at 1:24–1:56, then the montage accelerates to roughly one cut per second around 2:05–2:27. The most-replayed point, 2:06.8–2:08.4, combines an emotional reaction with difficult-looking game footage.

| Pace | 84 detected shots; 83 cuts, 29.6–33.6 cuts/min including uncertain changes; 35.7 picture changes/min; mean shot 2.0 s, median 1.52 s. Rhythm is deliberately uneven: 8.55 s opening shot, many 0.5–1.1 s shots after 2:04, 15.85 s final hold. |

| Voice | Several candid, low to mid register maker/interview voices; reflective first, anxious and sharper later. Aggregate pitch numbers cannot describe any one speaker. |
| On screen | Approximate sheet-based mix (inferred): 45% interviews and observational process, 40% product/game footage, 15% graphic/title/atmosphere. |
| Captions | No running subtitles. Brief editorial intertitles appear within the 1:02–1:19 montage. |
| Sound | Tonal cinematic music, space for room sound and speech; no regular whoosh or pop on cuts. Measured −16.3 LUFS integrated, −0.3 dBFS true peak. |
| Structure | Six beats: atmospheric open → creative conviction → playable proof → personal stakes → crisis/crescendo → restrained end slate. No spoken sales CTA or seamless loop. |
