Rocket Landing Failures, Then the Proof

A music-led archive of dated rocket landing failures escalates through real explosions before a long, verified successful landing.

Field notes / why it works

A restrained blue title frame makes a clear negative promise by 0:00.25, then dated cause labels make each piece of archival footage easy to follow without narration. The most-replayed window at 0:20.6–0:21.9 is an aerial fireball; after 39 shots of setbacks, the 13.75-second success shot and final overhead view make the payoff unmistakable.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A calm title promises a catalogue of things going wrong. The film then shows dated, increasingly spectacular failures with tiny factual labels and occasional deadpan asides; the final 16 seconds switch to a stable, successful landing. There is no explanatory presenter or spoken narration. Visible proof carries the story.

Why it works

  • The title appears over a nearly empty blue frame by 0:00.25 and stays through roughly 0:02.3. The calm image makes the coming mishaps a curiosity gap.
  • Each chapter makes the stakes legible with a date and cause (“engine sensor failed” at 0:19.7), while the replay peak at 0:20.6–0:21.9 lands on the immediate fireball.
  • The film spends almost two minutes on misses, then resolves with a labelled successful landing at 1:59.8 and an overhead proof frame at 2:07.7.

ScriptNo spoken script; Whisper's eight “words” are music/punctuation artifacts. Information is in a title, date/cause labels, and a few jokes.
VoiceNone; archival human reactions may be present in source footage, but there is no intelligible narrator in the supplied analysis.
On screenAlmost entirely archival live-action test footage: wide sea/sky, aerial long shots, barge cameras and a few closer aftermath views. One title card over footage.
CaptionsSmall white date/cause labels at lower left; sparse italic white quips near the bottom. No speech subtitles.
SoundContinuous tonal music-like bed, approximately 125 BPM in the ending section; explosions and footage audio may punctuate it (inferred from image and level changes).
StructureTitle → earlier failed attempts → escalating failure montage → multiple deck-level close calls → long successful landing reveal; no CTA or loop.
