The Prompter: A Story Inside a Simulation
An AI-made psychological film turns a monochrome relationship scene into a layered set, chase, and simulation reveal.
Field notes / why it works
The wordless chimp-with-camera image changes by 0:02.5, while dialogue waits until 0:09.2, creating a visual question before the plot starts. The film reframes its opening drama with the set reveal around 1:39, then repeats its central conflict around 4:31–4:37 before the 5:20 generation boundary and 5:52 lab reveal; the set shift and later turn coincide with replay peaks. Its measured first six minutes use only 29 detected shots but 94 changes inside them, letting scenes breathe while the visual premise keeps evolving.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A cinematic science fiction drama starts as a monochrome relationship scene, then reveals that the scene is being directed and that the people and environments may be generated. The viewer keeps revising the premise: intimate breakup, film set, danger outside the set, then research lab. This is a narrative film format, not a conventional product demonstration.
Why it works
- The first second reveals a chimpanzee from black, and by 2:50 it points a camera at us. A strange visual opens a question before dialogue starts at 0:09.
- At 1:34 a voice calls cut; around 1:38–1:45 the supposed drama becomes a film set. This is the first major reality shift and a replay peak (1:39–1:45.6).
- The script repeats its “no other ending” conflict at 0:36–0:44 and 4:31–4:37, then the 5:20 “end of generation” line and 5:52 lab cut change the meaning of that repetition.

|---|---|
| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube · 16:9 · 11:00 source; first 6:00 analyzed · measured copy 640×360 at 24 fps |
| Pace | 29 detected shots, 28 cuts, 4.7 cuts/min; 94 within-shot changes, 20.3 total picture changes/min; mean shot 12.41 s, median 4.79 s. Long scene passages and quick dialogue reverses alternate. |
| Script | 226 detected words in 6:00; 39 wpm elapsed, about 178 wpm during speech. Short, pointed dialogue; nine questions. Transcription may omit some words. |
| Voice | Contrasting dramatic character voices, an authoritative director, then restrained lab speakers; spoken dialogue begins at 0:09.2. No continuous narrator. |
| On screen | Character drama and staged interiors dominate, with a monochrome prologue, warm backstage space, night exterior/chase, then cool lab. |
| Captions | No dialogue subtitles or keyword pops visible on supplied sheets. Editorial serif title and small festival watermark only. |
| Sound | Three variations of a cinematic theme are credited in the post; thematic score and scene sound, with long dialogue gaps. Measured −20.0 LUFS integrated; true peak reads +2.0 dBFS, so inspect and limit a new master. |
| Structure | Image mystery → relationship scene → set reveal → off-set vulnerability → threat/chase → generation reveal → lab question. The analyzed 6:00 ends during an explanation, not with the film's final payoff or CTA. |
