The Never-Give-Up Miles
A 60-second runner portrait turns a health setback into a revised goal, with a sports watch integrated briefly into the comeback.
Field notes / why it works
The race bib and first-person marathon goal establish the subject within 3 seconds, then eight cuts in the first 10 seconds drive toward a sudden setback. Quiet interior details from 13–30 seconds make the revised goal feel earned; a brief watch interaction at 31 seconds leads into green running footage and a held hopeful portrait at 52–55 seconds. The product supports the story without stopping it for a feature list.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A runner states an ordinary performance goal over a race bib, then reveals that a medical setback changed what success means. A first-person account and increasingly embodied running footage turn the revised goal into a hopeful brand film; the product appears as a practical companion, not a lecture.
Why it works
- The title promise appears at 1.25 s, while the voice begins with the concrete line “This is my second marathon” at 0.82 s. The audience knows the subject before the setback arrives.
- The first 10 seconds contain eight cuts. At roughly 8–11 seconds, moving runner close-ups and black frames interrupt the calm start as the story turns toward the diagnosis.
- The visual arc mirrors the emotional arc: isolated indoor frames from 14–30 s give way to a watch at 31 s, open green paths from 35 s, and a sunlit portrait at 53 s.
Plate 02 / Format card
| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube · 16:9 · 640×360 source · 60.0 s · 23.98 fps |
| Pace | 29 detected shots, 28 definite cuts/min; uncertain motion may raise this to 62 cuts/min. 33 definite picture changes/min; mean shot 2.07 s, median 1.63 s. |
| Script | 121 transcribed words; 135 wpm across the film, 169 wpm while talking; 10 statements averaging 12.1 words. Transcript has errors around the diagnosis and final phrase. |
| Voice | One low-register, first-person adult voice; reflective, direct, more animated on turning points. No on-camera speech is visible in the supplied frames. |
| On screen | All live action (inferred): race bib and runner, indoor recovery details, watch/phone inserts, forest and park running, portrait, end card. |
| Captions | No running subtitles. Only centered uppercase opening and closing campaign titles; a small brand wordmark on the first shot. |
| Sound | Continuous tonal/music-like bed (measured heuristic); no clear cut-synced effects. −14.1 LUFS integrated, −1.0 dBFS true peak. |
| Structure | Goal → setback → redefinition → adjusted practice → resolve → title card. No spoken CTA. |
