Field notes / why it works

The first gameplay cut at 1.7 seconds shows movement, combat, and the hero's flame before the single premise card at 12.6 seconds names the world. Creature reveals, a map at 24–29 seconds, and escalating hazards keep renewing the visual promise; the eerie face-to-lantern passage at 53–56.8 seconds is the top replay peak before a 7.2-second release CTA.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A tiny playable hero enters a dark storybook world, survives rapid threats, and faces increasingly strange figures. The film leads with visual proof, gives one explicit genre/world promise at 0:12.6, then returns to action and closes with an “out now” card from 0:56.8.

Why it works

  • After the 1.67 s platform ident, the first gameplay sequence immediately demonstrates traversal, combat, and a torch-like tool (0:01.7–0:12.6); the premise is visible before it is named.
  • A single title card at 0:12.6 resets the viewer's understanding, while creature, map, boss, and dialogue clips provide successive reasons to keep watching (0:17–0:56.8).
  • The eerie face-to-lantern transition at 0:53.3–0:56.8 contains the strongest replay peak (0:55.2–0:55.9), just before the release card. The end card is also replayed at 1:00.5–1:01.1.

Platform · aspect · lengthYouTube · 16:9 · 64.0 s · source analysed at 640×360, 30 fps
Pace25 shots, 24 detected cuts; 22.5–28.1 cuts/min allowing six uncertain gameplay/map changes; 27.2 picture changes/min measured; mean 2.56 s, median 2.02 s
ScriptNo reliable speech; a short premise card at 0:12.6 and a release/retailer card at 0:56.8
VoiceNone. Two isolated “You” detections at 0:41.6 and 1:02.6 are likely recognition errors, not a narration track (inferred).
On screenAbout 79% gameplay and in-game UI/dialogue, 7% premise card, 3% platform ident, 11% end card; proportions approximate from shot durations.
CaptionsNo subtitles or karaoke captions. Large, centered storybook serif premise card; custom logo and orange release line on the end card.
SoundContinuous music-like bed; estimated 117 BPM at low confidence. Final master measured −13.7 LUFS integrated; source true peak measured +1.4 dBFS.
StructureIdent → action proof → genre/world promise → creature variety → map/progression → challenge and encounters → eerie mini-climax → release CTA.
