An overhelpful gift machine meets a thoughtful present
A handcrafted holiday comedy lets an escalating gift gadget make the case for a useful garment before a warmly timed brand reveal.
Field notes / why it works
The first 7.4 seconds turn a wrapped gift into a silent question, then three gadget demonstrations from 0:15 to 0:27 build a clear comic ladder. A fabric-label insert at 0:41 plants the product before the 1:17 public mishap; the 1:17.4–1:18.3 replay peak falls on that visual payoff, and the final garment handoff earns the brand line.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A cozy, dialogue-light miniature narrative opens on someone trying to give a gift. An eager invention promises to handle the occasion, turns simple jobs into increasingly physical gags, and leaves the thoughtful product or gesture to deliver the emotional resolution. The commercial identity arrives late, after the story has made its case.
Why it works
- The first 7.4 s withhold speech while a silent character studies a wrapped gift; the mystery is legible before any explanation.
- The machine's promise is demonstrated through separate wrap, give, and cracker actions from 0:15–0:29, each followed by a reaction or consequence.
- The 1:17.4–1:18.3 replay peak lands at the public embarrassment reveal; the final product/tagline beat follows at 1:20–1:28.
Plate 02 / Format card
| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube · 16:9 · 88.0 s · source capture 640×360 at 25 fps |
| Pace | 37 shots; 36 definite cuts, 24.5–25.9 cuts/min allowing two uncertain changes; 29.3 picture changes/min; mean shot 2.38 s, median 1.92 s |
| Script | 84 detected words, 64 wpm over runtime and about 135 wpm during speech; 16 short sentences; transcript has low-confidence words, so use it for timing rather than exact dialogue |
| Voice | Warm, excitable, slightly fussy adult inventor archetype; reactive dog-like companion is largely silent; no real-person vocal imitation |
| On screen | Entirely character/prop animation: roughly 45% medium or wide story staging, 30% expressive character close-ups, 25% object/interface inserts (estimated from shot sheet) |
| Captions | No subtitles. Only diegetic device labels, brief camera HUD, a product label, and end-card type |
| Sound | Continuous tonal/music-like bed measured around −26 dBFS, lively character dialogue, prop action; 11% of cuts have a stronger accent, so effects follow gags rather than every edit |
| Structure | 7 beats: silent setup, invention reveal, feature escalation, accident, product discovery, final public mishap, brand resolution |
