Field notes / why it works

The hand starts building the scene immediately, with six picture changes in the first three seconds, while the spoken either-or question is clear by 0:10. Two mechanisms become comparable numbers around 0:50 and 1:20; the first calculation coincides with the strongest replay peak at 0:48.8–0:51.1. The rule at 1:41–1:47 earns a practical exception at 2:08–2:40, adding a second reason to keep watching.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

Ask an ordinary, slightly uncomfortable question, then draw a physics style comparison that turns the answer into a numerical surprise. A visible hand builds each diagram as a quick, animated narrator explains it; the practical answer gets a qualification before a separate closing message.

Why it works

  • The opening creates a personal decision by 0:10, and the hand starts drawing within 0:00.25; six detected changes occur in the first three seconds.
  • The story gives the viewer two comparable quantities: about 37 units per hour at 0:51 versus a much larger evaporation figure from 1:01–1:25. The main replay peak is precisely the first calculation, 0:48.8–0:51.1.
  • The answer at 1:41–1:47 is revised into a useful edge case at 2:08–2:40, so the viewer gets both a rule and a condition for breaking it.

Pace112 detected shots, 111 cuts, 30.1 cuts/min; 128 total picture changes, 34.5/min; mean 1.97 s, median 0.67 s. These measurements count many short phases of the drawing process. The final sponsor shot alone lasts 50.79 s.
Script862 spoken words · 239 wpm overall, about 262 wpm during speech · 42 sentences averaging 20.5 words · three questions · 3.8 uses of “you” per 100 words.
VoiceLow register, quick, bright and animated science narrator; conversational, with audible rises on comparisons and qualifications.
On screenNearly all top down live hand drawing on a plain white sheet, with simple marker diagrams and short handwritten labels; no presenter face or footage montage.
CaptionsNo transcript captions. Only hand written headings, numbers, arrows, and labels appear when the relevant object is named.
SoundClose, continuous narration; faint tonal bed is suggested by measurement (inferred). No clear recurring cut effects. −13.6 LUFS integrated in the source.
StructureEveryday question → two mechanisms → numerical comparison → condition check → practical answer → separate sponsor message. Main payoff at 1:41–1:47; practical resolution at 2:35–2:40; sponsor begins 2:41.
