A birdwatcher's elusive photo becomes a smart-feeder reveal
A cinematic Kickstarter launch story delays the product reveal until a hobbyist's failed bird photos make the feeder's payoff meaningful.
Field notes / why it works
The first three seconds establish a bird obsession through pictures before narration begins, and repeated failed attempts make the product reveal at 1:02 feel earned. The visual proof is given room to breathe at 1:23–1:38; the bird-identification overlay at 1:28–1:30 is the strongest replay peak. A clear Kickstarter ask arrives only after the character gets the result at 1:41–1:51.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A short story follows an endearing older hobbyist who cannot capture proof of something they love. A younger, affectionate narrator frames the frustration, a gift turns out to be the product, and the ending shows both the functional result and the human relationship it improves. The product name arrives around 1:02, nearly halfway through.
Why it works
- The opening makes the missing photograph legible before the voice starts: framed bird images at 0:00–0:03, then a camera and an empty feeder at 0:10–0:24.
- The failure escalates into a visual joke around 0:35–0:50; the 31.77-second machine-grouped middle shot contains 14 on-screen changes, so the pace continues through the story's turn.
- The payoff is visual rather than a feature list: a bird at the feeder around 1:25, identification UI at the most-replayed 1:28–1:30, then the real bird and its portrait around 1:41–1:51.
