A Golden Earth, Three Catastrophes
A colourful 2D science thought experiment escalates from an atomic rule to planet-scale consequences through repeated rule changes.
Field notes / why it works
The premise is clear by 0:19, then each revised rule opens another causal question at 1:44, 2:20 and 4:50. The small-object blast at 1:34–1:40 is the strongest replayed moment in the measured six minutes, while 82 internal graphic changes keep long animated scenes active despite only six detected cuts.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A friendly animated lab proposes an absurd change to the world, then makes the rules precise enough to test. Each plausible fix causes a more surprising failure: a small demonstration becomes a planetary event, then a third rule opens another consequence. The promise is articulated by 0:19 and renewed with each rule change.
Why it works
- The first 19 seconds move from playful laboratory visuals to a specific world-scale question, so a strange premise gains a clear destination.
- The first miniature test pays off in a blast at 1:34–1:40, the strongest replay peak within the analysed span (0.68 on the supplied replay scale). The spectacle demonstrates a rule rather than interrupting the explanation.
- Each solution creates the next problem: atom replacement at 1:13, particle rearrangement at 1:44, whole-Earth compression at 2:29, and a stable-volume rule at 4:50. This keeps opening a fresh causal question.

| Measured reference and reusable target | |
|---|---|
| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube · 16:9 · 9:17 upload; 6:00 analysed. Produce a self-contained ~6-minute chapter or extend the same structure to a full episode. |
| Pace | 7 detected shots, 6 detected cuts (1.0–2.2 cuts/min allowing 7 uncertain changes); 82 internal graphic steps, about 14.7 picture changes/min including cuts. Mean detected shot 51.4 s, median 25.5 s. These are long animated scenes with many internal changes, not static holds. |
| Script | 956 words / 6:00 = 160 wpm overall, about 192 wpm while speaking; 52 sentences, mean 18.4 words; 4 questions; 16 number mentions; no detected fillers. |
| Voice | One low-register adult narrator; brisk, precise, amused, then grave as the scale grows. No visible speaker. |
| On screen | Effectively 100% flat-colour 2D animation in the supplied sheets: lab, characters, molecule-like diagrams, globe cross-sections, everyday objects, space and city scenes. |
| Captions | No continuous speech captions. Oversized single-word chapter reveal and small labels/numbers only when explanation benefits. |
| Sound | Continuous tonal bed measured at roughly 8 dB below the voice; −15.2 LUFS integrated, −2.4 dBFS true peak. Musical genre and individual effects cannot be verified from stills. |
| Structure | Playful hook → rule setting → small failed test → revised rule → global failure → revised rule → new consequence. The supplied six minutes end mid-explanation, so no full-video CTA or ending is established. |
