Field notes / why it works

The voice starts at 0:00 over a moving cartoon guide, and the first 14 seconds turn an alarming count into a surprising potential benefit. Across the measured first 6:00, 63 shots and 66 internal visual steps keep a causal story moving from ecosystem scale (0:38–0:45) to a phage hunt (2:08–3:25), a protective payoff (3:49–4:27) and a harmful counterexample (4:27–5:45). Replay peaks align with the 40-trillion-bacteria visual, the predator's arrival and the toxin consequence.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A friendly 2D cartoon expedition makes an invisible scientific system feel like a populated world. A surprising premise opens immediately, then numbered scale, a predator story, a protective payoff and a darker counterexample keep changing the viewer's understanding. The narrator speaks continuously; colourful characters act out nearly every concrete noun.

Why it works

  • The first spoken promise begins at 0:00, while a small purple explorer flies across a mint city; the surprising scale lands by 0:04. The camera then moves into a body-world rather than lingering on a title card.
  • The script turns facts into a causal story: friendly microbes at 0:40, predator at 2:10, infection mechanism at 3:03, mutual benefit at 3:49, harmful reversal at 4:27. Each change earns a new visual setting or character action.
  • Concrete numbers and embodied scenes coincide with replay peaks: the 40-trillion-bacteria landscape at 0:38.6–0:45.1, the phage arrival at 2:08.8–2:15.2, and the toxin consequences at 5:15.6–5:22.0.
