Field notes / why it works

The opening poses a concrete choice by 0:08–0:13 while seven edits in the first three seconds make the drawing feel alive. Opposing mechanisms become a two-curve graph at 0:56, then a calculation and threshold at 1:19–1:35; the calculation is the top replayed segment (1:23.6–1:24.9). Clothing turns the extreme answer into useful advice at 1:44–1:54, and a comic recap at 1:56–2:01 gives viewers a memorable finish.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A quick, voiced whiteboard explainer starts with a practical either/or question, gives each side a fair physical mechanism, then turns the conflict into a hand-drawn graph and a concrete threshold. The drawing hand is part of the performance: each new line arrives with the corresponding spoken idea. The final advice softens the extreme numerical answer with a practical workaround and a joke.

Why it works

  • The open question is practical and immediate: the cold-weather situation begins at 0:00.9, and the choice is posed by 0:08–0:13.
  • Two opposing mechanisms are shown before the answer: protective warm air at 0:14–0:23, lost air while moving at 0:23–0:44, and heat generated by movement at 0:44–0:56.
  • The graph creates a second mystery at 1:04–1:12, then the calculation and threshold at 1:19–1:35 pay it off. The most-replayed point, 1:23.6–1:24.9, sits in the calculation and its comic unclothed example.

Script419 spoken words; 209 wpm overall, 227 wpm while speaking; 17 long sentences averaging 24.6 words; two questions.
VoiceQuick, curious, medium-register adult narrator; animated but matter-of-fact.

CaptionsNo burned subtitles. Small handwritten labels appear only where a diagram needs them.
SoundSpeech leads. A music-like bed is detected between words at −22.6 dBFS (classification inferred); no clear cut-synced effects. −13.4 LUFS measured, +0.5 dBFS true peak in source.
