The Sea Forests Waiting for a Name
A cinematic conservation campaign turns an unseen marine habitat into a first-person character, then grounds the appeal in fieldwork and mapping proof.
Field notes / why it works
The land-forest opening and first-person line create an identity puzzle that resolves underwater at 0:18–0:22. A large biodiversity fact near 0:42 gives scale, while experts, workshops, maps and data work from 1:40–2:55 make the conservation proposal tangible. The closing appeal holds for about 10 seconds before the logo and URL; 3:27.7–3:29.9 is the measured most-replayed interval.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A cinematic campaign film gives an overlooked ecosystem a first-person voice. Familiar land-forest imagery sets up the reveal of an underwater subject at 0:18–0:22; natural-history footage, plain-language facts, expert testimony and field work turn the emotional premise into a concrete conservation action. The appeal lands at 3:21–3:31, followed by the organization and destination.
Why it works
- The opening makes a false visual assumption useful: a green forest fills the first 2.4 seconds while the narrator says “I'm a forest,” then the film reveals the sea at 0:18–0:22.
- It makes an invisible issue legible with both data and proof: the species statistic appears near 0:42, while interviews, community workshops, maps and code occupy 1:40–2:55.
- Branding is delayed. The emotional request at 3:21–3:31 comes before the full logo and site card at 3:27–3:31; that card is also the measured most-replayed span, though the reason for replay is unknown.

| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube · 16:9 · 3:40.9 · measured file 640×360 at 24 fps |
| Pace | 80 shots; 79 detected cuts; 21.5–25.3 cuts/min allowing uncertain changes; 30.7 total picture changes/min; mean 2.76 s, median 2.02 s per shot |
| Script | 408 measured spoken words; 119 wpm across the film, about 172 wpm during speech; 33 sentences averaging 12.4 words; no questions |
| Voice | Calm first-person narrator, then grounded interview and field voices; measured pitch across all speakers is not a single narrator profile |
| On screen | Nature and underwater footage dominates; documentary interviews, fieldwork, coastal aerials, location maps and computer work supply evidence; very little designed graphics |
| Captions | Small white, sentence-style subtitles near the lower center; occasional large white facts and place labels |
| Sound | Continuous tonal music-like bed, near the voice in measured level; no systematic cut-hit effects; −14.6 LUFS integrated, −0.8 dBFS true peak |
| Structure | Familiar premise → reveal → stakes → intervention → expert proof → global examples → appeal → brand/URL |
