Alike: a wordless color-and-routine fable
A silent CGI character film uses contrasting colors, repeated routines, and pantomime to show creativity under pressure.
Field notes / why it works
The orange child and blue adult communicate their opposing energies visually by 0:18, with no dialogue. Repeated desk and paper imagery at 2:07, 3:20, and 4:06 turns the conflict into a recognizable system; the strongest replay interval, 0:19.3–0:24.1, lands on an early character interaction.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A wordless, softly lit character story lets a bright child and a weary adult embody a tension between imagination and routine. The argument is made by repeated actions, changing color, and contrasting spaces rather than narration or explanatory text. The measured six minutes build the conflict; the ending of the published film is outside this dissection.
Why it works
- The child’s saturated orange against the adult’s muted blue makes the central tension readable at a glance (0:18–0:43), without spoken exposition.
- Parallel school and work scenes turn a private conflict into a social pattern: rows of desks at 2:07 and 4:06, stacks of paperwork at 3:20–3:35.
- The audience-replay peak at 0:19.3–0:24.1 coincides with the small character moving around the adult’s bag and papers, an early visual relationship beat rather than a verbal hook.

| Platform · aspect · analyzed length | YouTube · 16:9 · 6:00 measured excerpt; source upload listed as 8:02 |
| Pace | 69 shots; 68 definite cuts; 11.3–12.3 cuts/min allowing six uncertain changes; 19 picture changes/min including internal steps; mean shot 5.22 s, median 3.76 s |
| Script | No intelligible dialogue or voiceover. A stray one-word transcription is unsupported by the visible story; treat spoken-word count and WPM as zero/not applicable. |
| Voice | None; expressive faces, pantomime, score, and environmental sound carry meaning |
| On screen | CGI character animation throughout; wide tableaux alternate with medium character interaction, close-ups, and prop inserts |
| Captions | None in the story; small title/production marks in the opening |
| Sound | Music credited in the post; rough detected pulse 78 BPM with low confidence; measured −25.7 LUFS integrated and −5.2 dBFS true peak; no consistent cut-hit pattern |
| Structure | Opening credits → character contrast → city/school/work routine → creative impulse versus conformity → emotional depletion → attempted reconnection. Final resolution unobserved. |
