Dear Apple: customer letters in motion
A cinematic Apple Watch testimonial mosaic that grows from daily routines to life-changing stakes and a surreal underwater coda.
Field notes / why it works
The dim stage holds for 10.6 seconds with no cut, opening a letter-shaped question before the film moves through 60 short shots. Multiple first-person accounts turn specific daily changes into escalating stakes at 1:30–2:05; the most-replayed interval, 2:23.1–2:24.7, lands on the memorable underwater letter portrait.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A cinematic mosaic of ordinary customers reading short messages about what a product changed in their lives. The film begins as a letter addressed to the company, builds from daily routines to consequential help, and ends on the people and a memorable physical image. Its promise becomes explicit in the first spoken letter material around 0:20; the first 10.6 seconds withhold the story and establish a quiet, theatrical mood.
Why it works
- The locked, nearly empty stage during 0:00–0:10.6 creates an open loop; 0 cuts in the first 10 seconds is unusual beside the eventual 22.4–27.3 cuts/min.
- Several voices trade specific stakes: activity and mobility at 0:36–1:29, then diabetes, a car crash, and a medical emergency at 1:30–2:05. Product value is shown through situations, not a feature list.
- The most-replayed passage at 2:23.1–2:24.7 coincides with a surreal underwater customer portrait holding a letter. That image is also the cover.
