When emotion words act out their meanings
A 44-second kinetic typography study turns single feeling words into distinct physical motions across vivid colour cards.
Field notes / why it works
A moving dot withholds the concept for 5.75 seconds, so the first yellow word card at 0:05.8 lands as a reveal and draws a replay peak. Each subsequent word performs its meaning through curve, spacing, pressure or fracture; the red word splitting at about 0:32.5 coincides with the strongest replay window. Seven internal steps add activity to a measured eight-shot, 44-second piece without overcrowding the frame.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A tiny white dot travels through bright, flat colour fields; each new field introduces a feeling word whose letters physically enact that feeling. The promise becomes clear at the first word, “PAIN,” around 0:06, and the viewer keeps watching to see how the next word will behave.
Why it works
- The first 5.75 s withhold the premise: a single moving dot against purple makes the first yellow word card a strong pattern interrupt. The replay curve has a local peak at 0:05.8–0:06.3 (0.81 relative score).
- Every word gets a different visual verb: “CHEERFUL” arcs, “UNCOMFORTABLE” sits against a looming green blur, and “ANGRY” fractures near 0:32.5. The fracture leads into the strongest replay peak, 0:32.4–0:32.9.
- There are only 8 measured shots and 7 cuts in 44 s, but 7 internal step changes keep the latter half active. That is about 19 picture changes/min while preserving time for each idea to register.

| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube · 16:9 · 640 × 360 · 24 fps · 44.0 s |
| Pace | 8 measured shots, 7 cuts (9.5/min), 7 internal steps (19.1 picture changes/min total); mean shot 5.5 s, median 3.75 s. Shot 6 is a 17.29 s animation sequence with six steps. |
| Script | No reliable spoken script. Four low-confidence transcript tokens do not establish voiceover; the legible message is on-screen single words. |
| Voice | No verified narrator or visible person. |
| On screen | Approximately 100% motion graphics and kinetic typography; no live footage or interface. |
| Captions | None as speech captions; the word itself is the animated subject. Mostly small central uppercase text, with dramatic shifts in width, weight and tracking. |
| Sound | Continuous tonal/music-like bed by measurement; rough 94 BPM, low confidence. −22.5 LUFS integrated, −6.2 dBFS true peak; no clear cut-synced loudness accents. |
| Structure | Dot-only prelude → contrasting emotion cards → quicker word variations → fracture/replay peak → quiet closing word → URL end card. No verbal CTA. |
