Field notes / why it works

At 0:10.6, a familiar account of autumn color becomes a deeper causal question. The same illustrated worlds evolve through 24 internal graphic changes, making nutrients and chemical hazards visible without constant cuts. The 0:56 replay peak falls in the energetic-oxygen diagram, and the 1:45–1:59 conclusion reconnects the colors to nutrient recovery.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A familiar visible change opens the film; the narrator gives the usual explanation, then points out the deeper “why” it misses at 0:10–0:14. A single illustrated world turns invisible mechanisms into characters, materials, arrows, and a payoff that returns to the opening image.

Why it works

  • The correction arrives at 0:10.6 after the familiar explanation, opening a clear causal question.
  • Visuals keep translating the narration: a leaf inset at 0:02, pigment chemistry at 0:05–0:07, nutrient tokens at 0:26–0:31, and a chlorophyll factory at 0:42–1:13.
  • The 0:56 replay peak sits inside the dangerous energy sequence; the payoff at 1:45–1:59 ties the pretty color back to nutrient recovery.
