So Win: A Black-and-White Sports Manifesto

A monochrome brand film turns repeated prohibitions into athlete proof, then holds a long pause before its imperative payoff.

Field notes / why it works

The opening holds one moving black-and-white composition for 10.97 seconds, building tension before the first hard cut. Short four-word clauses then meet a ~40-cuts-per-minute proof montage of portraits, competition and celebration. A 6.86-second vocal pause before the answer near 0:51 makes the giant final text at 0:56–0:58 feel earned.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A one-minute, monochrome brand manifesto begins with social prohibitions aimed at “you,” then answers each with footage of people doing the forbidden thing. A slow, nearly uncut opening gives way to a brisk proof montage; a long withheld answer resolves in a two-word imperative and a giant text card.

Why it works

  • The first 10.97 seconds have no cuts: a horizontal white band moves down over a centrally framed athlete while the narrator lists restrictions. This creates visual suspense before the montage starts.
  • The spoken clauses average four words. From 0:11 onward, 40 measured cuts land across roughly 49 seconds, allowing each rebuttal to acquire a different action image.
  • After the final restriction at about 0:44, the voice holds for 6.86 seconds before the resolution near 0:51. The slogan appears in large type at 0:56–0:58, then the mark closes the film.
