Field notes / why it works

A crosswalk collision before 0:01 creates a wordless question, and the hospital diagnosis at 0:16–0:29 delays the answer until the full-body reveal near 0:43. A second illustrated alter-ego payoff around 1:05 lands at the video’s strongest replay interval (1:05.7–1:06.6). The 32-shot edit is quick early, then lets a nine-second bandage removal build suspense.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A small, cute mascot meets a sudden street accident (0:00–0:02), wakes up in a hospital (0:02–0:15), and hears a straight faced medical explanation for an impossible makeover (0:16–0:30). The reveal at 0:41 turns the melodrama into a bodybuilder sight gag, then an animated soap opera portrait and title extend the joke (1:04–1:16).

Why it works

  • The first visual reversal arrives before dialogue: plush character in a crosswalk, vehicle at 0:00.75, tumbling by 0:01.25. The first cut is at 0.918 seconds.
  • The medical scene delays the answer: bandages at 0:03, diagnosis at 0:18–0:25, unwrapping at 0:29–0:40, full makeover at 0:43.
  • The joke has two payoffs. A muscular plush reveal at 0:43 is followed by a heightened illustrated heartthrob portrait around 1:05; 1:05.7–1:06.6 is the top replay interval.
