The Wind Turbine Tradeoff, Drawn Out
A rapid hand-drawn physics explainer turns an energy tradeoff into a two-factor calculation and visual optimum.
Field notes / why it works
The paradox is clear by 0:03, then a familiar dam comparison makes the missing constraint visible by 0:21. A second constraint enters at 0:40, the first worked calculation is revised into an optimum at 1:14–2:06, and the answer arrives before the sponsor section. Replay peaks near 0:11, 0:42 and 0:53 align with the comparison and key math steps.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A quick, voice-led whiteboard lesson opens with a seeming contradiction, compares a familiar system with a less intuitive one, then resolves a two-factor tradeoff with a worked example and an optimum. Drawings accumulate on white space as the reasoning advances; the answer arrives at 2:00–2:06, followed by a caveat and a sponsor bridge.
Why it works
- The puzzle is stated by 0:03, the simple counterexample starts at 0:07, and the answer is withheld until 2:03.
- The drawing makes the abstract distinction visible: a blue reservoir and a rotor sit beside potential- and kinetic-energy labels at 0:15.6.
- The argument adds a second constraint at 0:40; replay peaks at 0:42–0:44 and 0:53–0:55 coincide with the mass-flow explanation (association inferred).
