Space data graphs turned into sound
A 24-second, five-part space-data animation makes changing graph values visible and tonal without narration or cuts.
Field notes / why it works
The premise appears at 0:00 and the first graph races from 4 to 1,622 objects by 0:02.75, delivering an early numerical surprise. Five metrics reuse one readable chart layout while colour, icon and curve shape reset attention at roughly 0:08, 0:12, 0:16 and 0:20; the budget chapter starts at the 0:16.2–0:16.5 replay peak. Continuous graph motion and tonal audio sustain the pace despite zero cuts and no speech.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A black, vertical canvas asks viewers to imagine data as sound. Five full-frame charts race through a historical timeline; a glowing line, moving dot, live year and value make each result legible while tonal audio gives the movement a second sensory channel. There is no presenter, voiceover or conventional subtitle track.
Why it works
- The premise is on screen at 0:00, while the first chart's year and value update within the opening second. The 0:00–0:03 sequence climbs from 4 to 1,622 objects, creating immediate escalation.
- The same layout survives all five subjects, so viewers learn how to read it once. Colour and icon resets at about 0:08, 0:12, 0:16 and 0:20 restore novelty without camera cuts.
- The 0:16.2–0:16.5 replay peak sits on the NASA budget chart just as the yellow line begins its rapid rise. Its 1960s spike also prompted the most liked budget comment (594 likes); the graph invites both sensory replay and interpretation.

| Pace | One continuous graphic shot; 0 cuts/min; 24 s measured shot length. Five chart topics and continuous line, dot and counter movement; automatic detector found only two abrupt picture changes at 0:08 and 0:20. |
| Script | No spoken words; five chart titles, small unit labels, years and live numbers. WPM: not applicable. |
| Voice | None. The changing data and tones carry the action. |
| On screen | 100% motion graphic / infographic; no people or footage. |
| Captions | No speech captions. Persistent small top premise; topic headers and large bottom readouts. |
| Sound | Continuous, loud, tonal music-like sound; graph sonification is implied by the premise and viewer comments, but the exact mapping is not measured. −6.4 LUFS integrated; −0.5 dBFS true peak. |
| Structure | Five successive chart reveals: objects launched, exoplanets, Voyager distance, NASA budget, fastest spacecraft. No explicit CTA. |
