VoiceOver's everyday journey
A cinematic accessibility launch film demonstrates useful screen-reading tasks through one person's trip to meet someone.
Field notes / why it works
A tactile stove sequence opens without speech for 3.28 seconds, then short questions turn documents, images, objects and signs into visible product proof. A wordless travel burst at 0:39–0:48 resets the pace before the personal payoff; the strongest replay peak at 1:07.2–1:08.1 aligns with the final subway title and smile.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A person gets ready for a meaningful meeting and travels there. Brief spoken questions and a calm device voice reveal the product's capabilities through everyday tasks; the product name waits until the character's journey resolves. The promise becomes explicit at 0:08 with a centered product line, while the opening demonstrates its usefulness before explaining it.
Why it works
- The first 3.2 seconds show tactile action and a kettle before any speech, creating a small question about the person and the day.
- Five concrete use cases arrive as tasks, not feature headings: document at 0:03–0:11, message/image at 0:13–0:24, clothing and lost item at 0:25–0:39, wayfinding at 0:48–0:55, and transit/message at 0:59–1:07.
- The replay peak at 1:07.2–1:08.1 coincides with the warm human payoff and centered product title; the branding answers what viewers have been watching.
Plate 02 / Format card
| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube · 16:9 · 81 s · source analyzed at 640×360, 24 fps |
| Pace | 40 shots; 39 definite cuts, 28.9–33.3 cuts/min including uncertain changes; mean 2.03 s, median 1.62 s; six internal picture changes |
| Script | 114 recognized spoken words; 107 wpm across runtime, about 216 wpm during speech; 13 short sentences, three questions. Some ASR words are uncertain. |
| Voice | Two archetypes: a natural adult asking brief questions and a clear, even device reader answering; screen reader speech is measured together with dialogue. |
| On screen | Almost entirely live action: domestic preparation, close phone inserts, and urban transit. No presenter addressing camera. |
| Captions | No continuous subtitles. Sparse centered product lines in white; phone UI contains functional text. |
| Sound | Credited instrumental song, everyday sound and device speech; measured −16 LUFS integrated, −1.6 dBFS true peak. No reliable cut-synced SFX pattern. |
| Structure | Tactile cold open → domestic tasks → lost-item bridge → journey and wayfinding → social payoff → product card and logo. No spoken CTA. |
