Five Religions Across a Moving World Map

A silent, timeline-led map explainer that turns centuries of geographic change into one continuous animated globe.

Field notes / why it works

The title becomes legible within about 0.5 seconds and gives way to the globe around 2.5 seconds. A fixed color key and date ruler make 58 on-screen changes across 155 seconds easy to follow, while short event callouts create milestones; the strongest replay peak at 1:04–1:05.5 coincides with a labeled origin and fast map fill. The move from regional detail to ocean routes around 1:40 and a near-global end state gives the sequence a visible payoff without narration.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A silent, music-led map advances through roughly five millennia while five color-coded categories expand across a globe. A title promises the whole historical sweep by 0:01; a bottom timeline supplies time and momentum, while brief geographic event labels explain major turns.

Why it works

  • The title is legible by about 0:00.5, then the map replaces the black field by about 0:02.5: promise followed immediately by proof.
  • Persistent color labels and a time ruler make the changing territories readable without narration; the dissection finds 58 internal picture changes, about 22.4 per minute.
  • Event callouts give the continuous animation milestones. The top replay peak, 1:04–1:05.5, aligns with a labeled origin event and a fast new color fill.

PaceOne continuous composited sequence, zero hard cuts; 58 detected on-screen changes, 22.4 changes/min; average interval between detected changes ≈2.6 s. The “155 s shot” is a measurement of continuous animation, not a still frame.
ScriptNo reliable spoken script; historical event cards carry the words. The 10-word machine transcript conflicts with the visual format and is likely a false detection from music.
VoiceNone audible/reliably evidenced. Use no narrator for this format.
On screenAlmost entirely animated cartographic motion graphic: globe/map, territory masks, persistent category key and date ruler, intermittent event callouts.
CaptionsNo speech captions; bold uppercase event headlines, generally 2–6 words, on translucent dark rectangles with a thin white rule.
SoundContinuous tonal/music-like bed (measured −16.7 LUFS integrated); roughly 110 BPM heuristic. No reliable evidence of dialogue or discrete effects.
StructureTitle → origins → successive expansions → global turn → settled world view → credits. Final view around 2:23; no CTA.
