Tunic's Mystery-to-Manual Reveal Trailer
A music-led game launch trailer that escalates from a golden-door mystery through combat and cryptic guide pages to a clean date reveal.
Field notes / why it works
The tiny hero against the huge gold doorway at 0:06.8 establishes scale and mystery instantly. Gameplay broadens from exploration at 0:10–0:15 to combat at 0:16–0:29, then a three-shot manual flash around 0:38 supplies the top replay peak. A 7.77-second clean logo hold gives the name and release date room to land after that peak density.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A 51-second, widescreen launch trailer moves from platform and studio marks into a mysterious hero image, then alternates scenic scale, play mechanics, combat, and secrets. A rapid flash of map or manual pages turns curiosity into a final clean product mark and dated release card. The promise becomes explicit with the glowing door and fox-like hero at 0:06.4–0:07.5; the first 5 seconds are publisher and studio identification.
Why it works
- The bright gold doorway, dark guardian statues, and tiny red hero at 0:06.8 establish scale and mystery in a single image.
- The footage supplies different reasons to care: traversal and map at 0:10–0:15, combat at 0:16–0:29, strange spaces at 0:30–0:37, and cryptic guide pages at 0:37.6–0:39.3.
- The busiest cutting arrives near the reveal: five detected cuts in 0:35–0:40, followed by a 7.77-second logo hold where viewers can absorb the name and date. The top replay peak is 0:38.2–0:38.8, amid the manual-page flash.
Plate 02 / Format card
| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube · 16:9 · 50.7 s · source measured at 640×360, 30 fps |
| Pace | 23 shots, 22 detected cuts · 26.0–36.7 possible cuts/min with uncertain flash changes · 30.8 definite picture changes/min · mean 2.21 s, median 1.7 s |
| Script | No narration; the only meaningful words are publisher/studio marks, the game logo, and the release date. A seven-word Chinese speech detection at 0:45.6 is low confidence and appears over a silent-looking logo slate, so treat it as a false positive (inferred). |
| Voice | None; music and gameplay effects carry the story. |
| On screen | Roughly 65% isometric gameplay/world footage, 15% lore or guide graphics, 20% idents and end cards (estimated from shot times). |
| Captions | None. Text is printed within source art or used in final identity cards. |
| Sound | Instrumental, bright electronic/cinematic pulse around 139 BPM (rough estimate); accents on 64% of cuts; −13.9 LUFS integrated, −3.7 dBFS true peak. |
| Structure | Identity → mystery hero image → world scale → action escalation → lore flash → logo/date → platform outro; date at about 0:43.2. |
