The Unanswered Ride Home
A 30-second night-time safety film turns an unanswered family text into a ride-status resolution and quiet arrival.
Field notes / why it works
A 7.45-second opening hold establishes a person waiting before the message thread supplies context at about 0:09. The unanswered follow-up at 0:15–0:17 sharpens the worry, and a three-second sourced fact reframes it as a wider safety issue. A status update at 0:20.4 and a 6.75-second arrival shot deliver the resolution with very little dialogue.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A short narrative ad opens on a person waiting at home. An on-screen message exchange establishes a loved one away from home; the reply stops, the camera moves closer to the waiting face, and a fact briefly widens the personal fear into a public problem. A final status update and exterior arrival make the service's value felt through relief rather than an app walkthrough.
Why it works
- The opening holds one domestic wide shot for 7.45 s, giving the viewer time to read the situation before any explanation.
- Messages appear over the waiting person's face at roughly 0:09–0:16, making the absence of a reply the central open loop.
- The overhead fact at 0:17.4 and ride-status resolution at 0:20.4 turn concern into a concrete action, followed by a 6.75 s exterior landing.

|---|---|
| Platform · aspect · length | YouTube · 16:9 · 640×360 measured · 30.0 s · 24 fps |
| Pace | 7 shots; 6 certain cuts, 12–14 cuts/min allowing one uncertain change; 3 internal graphic steps; 18 picture changes/min; mean shot 4.29 s, median 3.1 s |
| Script | Only 3 machine-transcribed spoken words, all low confidence; 13 overall wpm is an unreliable estimate. Message text carries the story. |
| Voice | Sparse natural character speech; no reliable narration or usable pitch direction can be inferred from the transcript. |
| On screen | Approximately 90% live-action domestic and exterior scenes; approximately 10% overhead phone/evidence insert (estimated from shot durations). Messaging UI is composited over the scene. |
| Captions | No karaoke subtitles; small sentence-case message bubbles at upper left and a centered fact in white. |
| Sound | Continuous tonal bed, roughly −17.1 dBFS between words; no clear cut-synced effects; −13.8 LUFS integrated, −1.9 dBFS true peak. |
| Structure | 5 story beats across 7 shots: waiting → unanswered question → heightened fear → evidence/status → arrival. No spoken CTA or loop. |
