Field notes / why it works

The spinning globe and concrete speeds build a plausible wrong prediction by 0:19, then the ground, air and plane diagram supplies the missing reference frame. A simple 1,000 ± 100 mph comparison lands its counterintuitive reversal at 0:55–0:58, the strongest replay window; the 1:05–1:27 jet-stream turn answers the related real-world question.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

Start with a familiar observation that appears to imply an absurd result. Teach the viewer the missing reference frame with progressively annotated, simple drawings; make the paradox explicit, then explain the real-world exception. A rapid, personable narrator supplies the momentum while hand-drawn images keep one idea on screen at a time.

Why it works

  • The first 19 seconds turn two concrete speeds into a plausible but wrong prediction. The drawn spinning globe makes the premise legible before the question is fully stated.
  • At 0:30–0:58, the diagram shifts from globe to ground, air and plane, then to 1,000 ± 100 mph arrows. The 0:56.7–0:58.0 reversal is the strongest replay peak.
  • The answer does not end the lesson: 0:59 adds a polar exception and 1:05 opens the real flight-time puzzle. A wind/jet-stream visual at 1:16–1:21 supplies a second explanation.
