Hand-Drawn Cause and Effect Explainer

A brisk whiteboard lesson turns an abstract physics question into two opposing, hand-drawn timelines.

Field notes / why it works

A drawing hand creates constant visible progress: 115 detected shots and 39.3 total picture changes per minute, while completed diagrams hold for harder ideas. The argument moves from familiar questions at 0:03–0:16 to a surprising model, then uses a forward example at 1:15 and a reverse example at 2:00; replay peaks at 2:04.8–2:06.9 and 2:36.0–2:38.1 fall within the second example and its conclusion.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A top-down hand draws a sequence of simple diagrams while an animated, low-register narrator takes an everyday intuition, challenges it with a technical model, then restores a more useful version through two concrete examples. The title promises an answer to a big question; the voice states the contradiction around 0:16, and the final synthesis lands at 2:42–2:57.

Why it works

  • The drawing itself creates forward motion: 115 detected shots, 22 internal picture changes, and 39.3 picture changes per minute, despite one fixed white background.
  • The question becomes progressively concrete: a burning house at 0:04–0:10, equations at 0:16–0:31, then a spark and explosion at 1:15–1:53.
  • The second example reverses the first at 2:00–2:40: a pencil stands for evidence about the past. Replay peaks at 2:04.8–2:06.9 and 2:36.0–2:38.1 coincide with this pivot and its generalization.
