Field notes / why it works

By 0:15–0:17, two stick figures carry opposing ‘older’ and ‘younger’ predictions; that is the highest-replayed passage. A single blue-and-orange diagram is built from 0:29 and supplies the missing interval at 1:19–1:34, then the video checks the result with explicit totals and a real-world clock example at 2:01–2:29.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A brisk narrator poses a seeming contradiction, draws both sides with a few recurring icons, then adds one neglected relationship to the same diagram. The explanation becomes a visible accounting exercise: the viewer can see why each partial calculation looked right and where the missing quantity goes.

Why it works

  • A person, a planet, and a rocket make the abstract dispute concrete by 0:16; the most replayed window is 0:15–0:17, where “older” and “younger” labels appear over the two characters.
  • The diagram is built in stages from about 0:29, keeping the same axes and orange path on screen while the narrator switches viewpoints. The answer at 1:19–1:34 reuses those marks instead of asking viewers to learn a new visual system.
  • The explanation is checked twice: arithmetic and agreement at 2:01–2:24, then a real-world clock example by 2:29. Comments show both gratitude for the resolution and continued confusion, so the visual accounting is essential rather than decorative.
