Field notes / why it works

Four characters are readable in a 2×2 grid by 0:00.75, then close-ups and a large type card at 0:02.5 turn that order into motion. Sixteen cuts in the first 10 seconds keep changing the graphic surface—poster, hazard strip, viewfinder, disc and message UI—while recurring illustrated figures preserve continuity. The comic-panel hit at 0:14.4 gives the montage a clear visual peak.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A music-driven fan-art motion collage introduces four illustrated figures in a clean grid, then breaks that order into close-ups, giant editorial type, torn-print graphics, found-image walls, disc art and comic panels. It promises a dense visual tribute rather than an explanation; each musical accent brings a new treatment of the same world.

Why it works

  • The 2×2 portrait grid appears by 0:00.25, then the 0:01–0:02 close-ups make the viewer recognize the figures before the collage accelerates.
  • The first 10 seconds contain 16 cuts; each new graphic treatment adds novelty while the character art remains the anchor.
  • A large phrase at 0:02.5, orange title card at 0:03.5, hazard-striped collage at 0:04.2 and comic panels at 0:14.4 act as distinct visual peaks.

Pace23 detected shots; 22 cuts, 65.8 cuts/min (up to 71.8 if two uncertain changes at 0:12.2/0:12.6 are cuts); mean 0.87 s, median 0.5 s. The last black shot is 5.5 s.
ScriptNo reliable spoken script. The 12-word automatic transcript appears to follow the music and is low confidence; don't pace a narrator to its 44 wpm estimate.
VoiceNo presenter or dialogue. A music track carries the piece; any vocal is treated as part of that recording.
On screen100% designed montage until a black hold: illustrated portraits, print collage, camera-viewfinder frames, CD graphic, chat screen, comic panels.
CaptionsNo continuous subtitles; large keyword/headline cards and occasional tiny editorial labels.
SoundCredited music: “feel good inc 2.0” by the creator; music-forward, with accents at many cuts (the detector found loudness jumps at 55% of cuts). −15.4 LUFS integrated, −4.5 dBFS true peak.
StructureGrid hook → portrait push-ins → typographic and print collage → escalating image montage → comic hit → black ending. No explicit CTA.
