Field notes / why it works

The upper half turns raw chips into finished components while the locked lower view accumulates a meal across 17 shots, making every cut show progress. A 5.34-second opening stays active through frying and tossing, and the split resolves into a full-frame food hero at 47.7 seconds.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A two-panel vertical film shows hands preparing ingredients in the upper half while a bowl assembles in the lower half. The lower view stays in roughly the same countertop position, so every cut produces visible progress; after the last garnish, the split disappears for a finished food hero.

Why it works

  • The first 3 seconds show raw chips, frying, and an almost empty serving setup without explanation or a title. The unanswered visual question is what the tray will become.
  • Across 17 shots and 16 cuts, the upper action changes from chips to herbs, rice, beans, peppers, cooking, cheese, and garnish while the lower composition accumulates each component.
  • The final 4.8 seconds move from hands and ingredient claims to the completed bowl, giving the earlier prep a clear payoff.

PaceMeasured composite: 17 shots · 16 cuts · 19.5 cuts/min · 2.89 s average, 3.13 s median · longest 5.38 s. The opening sheet also shows upper-panel-only edits inside the first measured shot.
ScriptNo reliable spoken script. The machine transcript has 14 low-confidence, incoherent words and conflicts with the visual format. Use an action plan, not narration.
VoiceNone reliably identifiable; hands and workers appear as craft archetypes, without a presenter address.
On screenAbout 97% split-screen live-action process/result; last 1.46 s is a full-frame plated hero.
CaptionsNo editorial captions. Legible words are incidental: a shirt and a paper sign near the end.
SoundPlatform lists an original sound; a continuous tonal bed is measured. Exact instruments and kitchen effects cannot be established from the sheets.
StructureMaterial-to-meal build, 17 paired shots, authenticity coda, final hero at 47.7 s; no explicit CTA.
