Field notes / why it works

A thumb-sized fruit at 0:00 creates immediate scale surprise, while five persistent numbered icons promise a progression. New levels at about 0:07, 0:13, and 0:24 reset attention; 28 mostly tactile shots in 34.1 seconds escalate from a drink to cutting, candying, and a foaming final experiment at 0:31–0:34.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A presenter shows four progressively more elaborate versions of one food idea, from a tiny novelty item to a large, messy experiment. A persistent row of numbered icons promises the ladder; almost all information comes from close, fast, tactile demonstration rather than explanation. The fourth level ends in a physical reaction and stops without a spoken conclusion.

Why it works

  • At 0:00 a thumb-sized striped fruit fills the foreground while the presenter's face is blurred. The size mismatch is the immediate visual pattern interrupt.
  • The 1–5 icon row appears by about 0:00.25 and progressively lights up through level four; each new spoken level at about 0:07, 0:13, and 0:24 renews the promise.
  • The actions escalate from pouring a drink (0:05) to cutting a whole melon (0:09), candying melon balls (0:18–0:23), and a foaming finale (0:30–0:34).
