Smoking’s Whole-Body Consequence Chain
A 90-second illustrated health explainer turns vessel damage into escalating organ, disease, and lifespan stakes.
Field notes / why it works
The 0:00 organ tableau and headline make the scope clear instantly, while 34 within-shot changes keep 14 relatively long scenes active. The visual chain moves from narrowing vessels at 0:07 to strained heart and lungs, then turns the 1:14 lifespan figure into three visible paths before a human closing image.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A low-register narrator explains a health risk by turning internal processes into expressive, brightly coloured cartoon scenes. The opening promises a whole-body explanation; the edit then follows a causal chain from damaged vessels to the heart, lungs, cancer risk, and years of healthy life lost.
Why it works
- The promise appears immediately: a top-centred health headline sits over a full torso of personified organs at 0:00, while speech begins at 0:00.
- Each abstract link gets a concrete picture: narrowing vessel at 0:07–0:13, a straining heart around 0:18, injured lungs at 0:41–0:48, and three lifespan paths at 1:15–1:23.
- The final stakes grow more personal. After the mechanism and disease sections, the narration gives 10 years as an average at 1:14, then ends on a visibly ill person at 1:24–1:30.
