Cheese Varieties Vanish in Stop Motion

A silent sequence of seven floating cheeses uses gradual disappearances and bold colour resets to turn simple objects into a visual puzzle.

Field notes / why it works

The opening holds one pale cheese against blue for 5.0 seconds while its outline and holes change, so the viewer can follow a simple visual transformation without text. Six major resets over 39.1 seconds introduce new silhouettes and saturated fields, while seven changes within shots keep the sparse cut rate from feeling static. An empty red field around 0:13.4 creates a brief surprise before another specimen appears on purple.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

Seven related specimens float alone, one after another, on saturated colour fields. Each appears to be consumed or reduced by an unseen force through small, stop-motion-like changes; the next specimen and a new background restart the visual puzzle. The implicit promise is a satisfying parade of transformations (inferred), made entirely with image and sound.

Why it works

  • The first 3 s isolate one familiar object with no text, face, or visual clutter, so small changes to its silhouette and holes become the event.
  • Seven specimens across 39.1 s provide a repeatable expectation; cuts at 0:05.0, 0:09.6, 0:17.2, 0:21.7, 0:26.2, and 0:34.8 reset the colour and shape.
  • The changing blue, green, red, and purple fields make the objects legible at phone size, while the empty space gives the motion room to register.
