Tokyo's last trains as a living map
A silent screen capture turns a last-train atlas into a time-scrubbed, light-and-dark network demonstration.
Field notes / why it works
Colored routes assemble across the map in the first 2 seconds, making the system's scale legible before any explanation. A dark-mode switch near 0:08 and cursor-led scrubbing from roughly 0:21 to 0:42 show that the visual is a working interface whose routes change with time. Only two definite cuts in 62.5 seconds keep the interaction credible.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A screen recording makes a dense system feel discoverable: begin on a clean overview, reveal its full colored network, switch to a luminous night mode, then scrub time and change the camera angle to prove the interface is live. The implicit promise arrives in the first second: this map lets a viewer see how a city's last services disappear over time.
Why it works
- The 0:00–0:01 network expansion is a visual pattern interrupt: dozens of routes populate a quiet map without a spoken setup.
- The light/dark switch at about 0:08 makes the same dataset feel newly legible; glowing stops make the night concept visible.
- Timeline scrubs around 0:21–0:42 show the interface responding at specific late-night times; the uncut cursor movement functions as product proof.
Plate 02 / Format card
| Platform · aspect · length | X · 1150×720 (23:14, near 16:10) · 62.5 s · 52.91 fps source |
| Pace | 3 detected shots, 2 definite cuts · 1.9–6.7 cuts/min allowing uncertain transitions · 7.7 detected picture changes/min · mean shot 20.83 s, median 7.35 s |
| Script | No credible speech or narration. Three low-confidence “You” detections are likely false positives; no spoken word budget. |
| Voice | None. Let on-screen Japanese labels, clocks and cursor actions carry the explanation. |
| On screen | Approximately 100% interface capture: full map, persistent left rail list, top controls and bottom time scrubber. No presenter or cutaway footage. |
| Captions | No editorial subtitles. Small UI labels, bilingual station tags, numeric countdowns and a large clock serve as readable text. |
| Sound | Effectively silent: measured −70 LUFS integrated, no identifiable music bed or usable voice. |
| Structure | Initial reveal → visual mode change → spatial and temporal exploration → return to overview → alternate filtered state; ends on interface, without CTA card. |
