No Samples: A Code-Built Mascot Rap

A three-minute animated rap single turns its code-built music and visuals into the subject of the song, with recurring mascot choruses and technical proof scenes.

Starter prompt / by Refs

The creator shared no short prompt. This is ours for making a film like it with Claude.

Write and produce a three-minute rap single about {TOPIC} without a single sample: generate the drums, bass and synths in JavaScript with the Web Audio API in an OfflineAudioContext, and create the rapped vocal with a TTS voice locked to the beat grid. Build the music video in one HTML file, opening on album art spinning on a vinyl record, then a blocky pixel rapper, beat-reactive scenes and karaoke-style lyrics. Render frames with headless Chrome and mux everything to 1920×1080 with ffmpeg.

Field notes / why it works

The spinning vinyl, cover art and one-number claim establish a complete music release by 0:03, before vocals start at 0:05. The mascot chorus returns around 0:14, 1:20 and 2:35, while verse graphics visibly demonstrate the claims through code at 0:42, a waveform at 1:09 and a sequencer at 1:51. Across 3:10, 36 shots and 27 internal changes keep the animation moving without making the technical scenes unreadable.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

An animated mascot performs a full rap single about how its own creation works. The repeated chorus is a simple visual reset; the verses turn technical claims into miniature proof scenes: code, waveform, sampler, sequencer, calendar, and quantitative counter. The opening vinyl sleeve promises a real song before any spoken setup.

Why it works

  • A recognizable record sleeve, disc and tonearm establish music-video expectations in the first 3 seconds, while the record label and cover repeat the central claim.
  • Chorus scenes return around 0:14, 1:20, and 2:35, giving the 3:11 film a memorable anchor between dense verses.
  • The visuals show the underlying method while the rapper describes it: a code window at 0:42, snare static at 0:50, a wave plot at 1:09, a step sequencer at 1:51, and rendering at 2:11.

Pace36 shots; 35 cuts; 11.0–11.6 cuts/min; 27 internal changes; 19.5 total picture changes/min; mean shot 5.3 s
Script507 detected spoken words; 174 wpm overall, about 200 wpm during vocals; automatic transcript has 153 low-confidence words, so use timings more than literal transcription
VoiceOne low-register, highly rhythmic animated-rapper archetype; playful and self-aware
On screenNearly all stylized 2D animation: about half mascot performance, one third technical proof graphics, the rest vinyl and packaging (estimated from sheets)
CaptionsSmall white sentence subtitles on verse scenes; selected word in yellow; larger bold white hook line across mascot stage
SoundMusic-forward rap beat, estimated 121 BPM; music only about 1.1 dB below voice by the measurement; no consistent cut effects detected
StructureVinyl intro → performance/setup → technical verse → chorus → second technical verse → quick call-and-response break → final chorus → record end card
