A Vocal-Synth Song Inside a Failing Retro OS
A code-styled music video turns a synthetic pop song into a desktop update, error storm, rollback, and recovery.
Field notes / why it works
The first 6.63 seconds hold on a black boot screen and slowly filling pink bar, creating a clear question before the colorful interface reveal. Lyric windows turn the sung theme into visual software behavior, escalating from changelog (0:20) and installer (0:33) to a 12-cut error storm around 1:20–1:33. A single rollback dialog then holds for 12.73 seconds before the refrain returns with a clearer decision.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A widescreen, code-like music video turns a fictional computer's installation, errors, updates, and rollback into a metaphor for an inner conflict. It opens like a slow boot, then lets the interface become the lyric sheet: windows, progress bars, warning stripes, and oversized Japanese display type perform with the sung melody.
Why it works
- The first 6.63 seconds show only a dark boot screen and a growing progress bar; the viewer waits to learn what is being installed.
- The visual premise escalates in distinct stages: changelog at 0:20, installer at 0:33, hazard windows at 0:43, lyric wallpaper at 0:53, then an error-window pileup from 1:21–1:33.
- The pileup resolves into a 12.73-second rollback window at 1:33, then the bright lyric interface returns at 1:46. The contrast gives the reprise a story, not just repeated graphics.
Plate 02 / Format card
| Platform · aspect · length | X · 1280×720, 16:9 · 143.2 s · 30 fps |
| Pace | 40 shots; 39 definite cuts = 16.3/min, up to 21.8/min including uncertain flashes; 20.1 picture changes/min counting clear in-shot steps; mean shot 3.58 s, median 1.75 s |
| Script | Original Japanese sung lyrics; automated transcript reports 295 word-like units and 131 wpm overall, but Japanese segmentation and music make these unreliable as a writing target. Write to bars and syllables instead. |
| Voice | High-register, expressive synthetic singing; no spoken narration or person on screen |
| On screen | Approximately 100% designed motion graphics; no live action or product walkthrough |
| Captions | Lyrics are large interface messages, usually 1–2 short clauses per window, black or pink heavy type on cream/pastel panels; no conventional lower-third subtitles |
| Sound | Continuous, music-forward vocal-synth pop song; estimated half-time pulse near 72 BPM (low confidence); −11.1 LUFS integrated, −1.3 dBFS true peak |
| Structure | Boot → fake repair/setup → lyric chorus → instrumental error storm → rollback → brighter reprise → command-line shutdown; no CTA |
