Trust the Odds: Midterms Hub Launch
A sparse election-data launch film turns scattered map fragments into a product map, live update, and clear UI destination.
Field notes / why it works
A blank white opening gains its first graphic by 0.75 seconds, then scattered red and blue map pieces dramatize the narrated information overload. The reveal at about 9.6 seconds leads through a national map, a 39% detail at 15.9 seconds, and an update card at 19.9 seconds before the destination tab appears at 30.4 seconds. Those distinct visual proofs and the sparse final card make the format reusable for another data product.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A widescreen, white-background launch film turns a noisy field of opinions into a single source of clarity. The opening withholds the product, then a voice-led slogan gives way to a data visualization, specific UI proof, and a final destination and promise.
Why it works
- The first picture change arrives at 0:00.8, while separate red and blue map fragments gather around tiny central type; the incomplete picture makes the viewer wait for resolution.
- The product is named only after the 0:08.2 pause, then shown at 0:11.9 through a map, a number overlay at 0:15.9, and a live-style update at 0:19.9.
- The closing 0:28–0:33 interface sequence shows where to find the feature before the 0:33.2 promise card.
Plate 02 / Format card
| Platform · aspect · length | X · 16:9, 1280×720 · 36.9 s · 24 fps |
| Pace | 2 detector-defined shots, 1 cut at 23.85 s = 1.6 cuts/min; 6 internal steps, 11.4 picture changes/min; first step 0.75 s. Motion and graphic changes make the perceived pace faster than the cut rate. |
| Script | 74 measured words · 128 wpm over the full film, about 178 wpm while speaking · five transcript blocks; declarative, no questions. |
| Voice | One medium-register, clear, assured advertising narrator; controlled emphasis and deliberate gaps. |
| On screen | Entirely designed: floating map silhouettes and kinetic type → election data map → small alert card → sparse navigation/product tab → closing line. No people or camera footage in the sheets. |
| Captions | No conventional subtitles; short central phrases are designed as scene content. |
| Sound | Continuous tonal/music-like bed (detector), near -14.9 LUFS integrated; no discrete effects confirmed. |
| Structure | Noise 0–6.6 · thesis 6.6–9.6 · product/data 9.6–21.9 · benefit 21.9–28.1 · destination/claim 28.1–36.9. |
