A Phone Call Becomes a Feature Launch

A cinematic comic phone call uses a mundane errand, hand-drawn comparison graphics and a late coding reveal to announce an assistant voice feature.

Field notes / why it works

The 0:00 split caller image and phone pickup establish the comic premise before speech starts at 0:01.9. An ordinary choice escalates into a visible trade-off curve at 0:20.6 and two scored option cards at 0:27.6–0:29.8, so the late feature reveal at 0:40–0:46 feels earned. Eighteen shots and eight internal graphic changes keep the 51.3-second dialogue visually active.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A friendly nonhuman assistant and a human user have a comic phone call about an ordinary errand. The assistant overthinks the choice, briefly shows its reasoning, then unexpectedly turns the request into a working product feature. The feature is introduced through the consequence of the scene rather than an opening title.

Why it works

  • A split image of the two callers appears at 0:00, followed by a tactile rotary-phone pickup before dialogue begins at 0:01.9. The premise is legible without setup.
  • The human's urgency at 0:10–0:13 conflicts with the assistant's elaborate comparison at 0:16–0:33; a chart and two small choice cards make the abstract joke visible.
  • The reveal waits until 0:40–0:46: the assistant has already built a feature. That turns a character gag into a product announcement in the last fifth.
