Procedural Trains in an Interactive 3D Atlas

A silent interactive train study moves from paired 3D models to an exploded view, then cuts to the code that built them.

Field notes / why it works

The completed pair is visible at 0:00, giving a clear comparison before any setup. A continuous 17.87-second web recording uses camera movement and an exploded construction around 0:10.7 to reveal detail, then the sole cut at 0:17.9 turns the source code into proof of the runtime-build claim.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A polished, interactive 3D scene presents two related machines side by side, then the camera moves closer and one model separates into components. A final cut to a dark code editor supports the post's claim that the detailed world was built from runtime geometry. The format works through a visual question: how is this intricate thing assembled?

Why it works

  • The result is visible at 0:00: two detailed models fill most of the frame before any explanation.
  • Camera movement replaces edits for 17.87 s; the view shifts from paired wide shot to close side view, overhead view at 0:08.9, and exploded construction at 0:10.7.
  • A single hard cut at 0:17.9 shows the source code, giving the runtime-building claim a proof beat rather than another beauty angle.
