Topographic Scan Flyover
A silent Three.js terrain flyover turns a sculpted map into a technical locator interface with two late site reveals.
Field notes / why it works
The complete terrain and locator interface is visible at 0:00, and a subtle pulse and moving shadow create motion before any cut. A 24.15-second continuous survey makes the topographic detail the content, then new target and cliff views at 0:24 and 0:32 renew attention without narration.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A nearly overhead camera surveys a pale, sculpted terrain while a stark black locator and faint concentric scan rings identify one feature. The scene feels like a scientific instrument because its visual storytelling comes from topography, moving shadows, tiny technical labels and the shift from one landmark to another. There is no spoken promise: the finished visual is present at 0:00.
Why it works
- The result-first hook shows the complete map interface at 0:00; a white basin visibly swells and its shadow moves by 0:01.
- The same target stays legible while the camera travels, with terrain detail replacing narration through the 24.15-second first shot.
- A new, smaller target appears around 0:25, followed by a fresh terrain region and data callout around 0:33; those changes give the slow tour a second act.
Plate 02 / Format card
| Platform · aspect · length | X · 16:9 · 1280×720 · 60 fps · 37.9 s |
| Pace | 3 measured shots; 2 cuts; 3.2 cuts/min measured, up to 12.7 if all six uncertain changes were cuts; average shot 12.63 s. Camera and terrain move continuously inside shots. |
| Script | No dialogue, voiceover or captions; small diegetic interface labels only. |
| Voice | None; no person appears. |
| On screen | 100% high-angle 3D terrain with composited cartographic HUD. |
| Sound | No audio track, music or effects. |
| Structure | Result-first landmark → orbiting terrain survey → second target → final terrain and data detail. No CTA. |
